It’s just unicode. Hit ctrl+shift+u and then type a hex value followed by enter. ɐ is 0250, q is just a lowercase Q, and ɔ is 0254. You can enter all sorts of other things like keyboard ⌨, radiation ☢, hammer and sickle ☭, interrobang ‽, etc.
